Greek neo-Nazi orders removal of “disrespectful” journalists
Journalists who refused to stand in respect for Golden Dawn party leader Nikolaos Michaloliako were forcibly removed from a recent press conference. Michaloliakos railed against the conservative Samaras party, illegal immigrants, and the mainstream press before heaping praise on the youth he believed responsible for Golden Dawn’s election success. “I want to dedicate this victory to all of our brave lads,” he said, continuing, “who wear the black t-shirts with the ancient letters reading ‘Golden Dawn’.”(Photo via CBC News) source

Mutant Crabs Showing Up in the Gulf
BP’s massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico may be related to the eyeless shrimp, clawless crabs and other deformed animals now found in the Gulf, reported Al Jazeera. Fishers and marine biologists believe tremendous amounts of highly toxic chemicals may have had a negative effect on creatures that are constantly bathed in them, contrary to what BP asserts.
Al Jazeera quoted numerous fisherman who had pulled warped crustaceans from the waters where nearly 5 million barrels of oils spewed forth after the 2010 explosion that cost 11 mens’ lives on the BP-operated Deepwater Horizon oil rig.

“I’ve seen the brown shrimp catch drop by two-thirds, and so far the white shrimp have been wiped out,” Keath Ladner, a seafood processor in Hancock County, Mississippi told Al Jazeera. “The shrimp are immune compromised. We are finding shrimp with tumors on their heads, and are seeing this everyday.”
Tracy Kuhns and her husband Mike Roberts, commercial fishers from Barataria, Louisiana, found eyeless shrimp and: “We are also finding eyeless crabs, crabs with their shells soft instead of hard, full grown crabs that are one-fifth their normal size, clawless crabs, and crabs with shells that don’t have their usual spikes … they look like they’ve been burned off by chemicals.”
“We also seeing eyeless fish, and fish lacking even eye-sockets, and fish with lesions, fish without covers over their gills, and others with large pink masses hanging off their eyes and gills,” Darla Rooks, a lifelong fisherperson from Port Sulfur, Louisiana said.

Fish in Gulf of Mexico found with lesions tied to petroleum and other pollutants
Fish harvested from the Gulf of Mexico have been found with unusual lesions and infections. Two years after the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and sank, the latest research into its effects is starting to back up those early reports from the docks: The ailing fish bear hallmarks of diseases tied to petroleum and other pollutants.

William worked from June to October 2010 as part of the Vessels of Opportunity program that paid the fishermen BP put out of business to use their boats to clean up its oil. William transported giant bags, called bladders, used to collect oil, to the shore. When he came home at night, says Nicole, his clothes “smelled oily.” Not only were his clothes blackened; so was William.

William’s symptoms began with coughing, then headaches and skin rashes, followed by vomiting and diarrhea. About three to six months later, he started bleeding from his ears and nose and suffering from a heavy cough.

“I ain’t got no money for a doctor,” William quietly tells me, staring down at his hands in his lap. Medicaid covers the kids, but Nicole and William do not have health insurance. “We didn’t know we were gonna get sick. Now I get sick, I stay sick. I don’t sleep. I stay stressed out more than anything. I got bags under my eyes I never had before. I just don’t know if I wanna show people who I am.”

Special Investigation: Two Years After the BP Spill, A Hidden Health Crisis Festers

William and Nicole Maurer, and their two young daughters, are among the hundreds of thousands of Gulf residents suffering from the hidden health crisis festering in the region as a result of the toxic “gumbo of chemicals” to which the people, places and wildlife of the Gulf continue to be exposed. From respiratory ailments to neurological disorders to what’s being called the “BP rash” and more, coastal residents have experienced devastating health effects while BP still hasn’t been held to account.  Antonia Juhasz reports on the little-known crisis at length in a special investigation for The Nation.

U.S. DOJ files first round of criminal charges related to Gulf Oil Spill
Evidence reportedly destroyed by ex-BP employee: Former BP engineer Kurt Mix was arrested today, charged with two counts of obstruction of justice for allegedly destroying evidence requested by federal investigators. The charges are the first to be filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, related to the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill, but may not be the last according to Attorney General Eric Holder. Holder told reporters that the Deepwater Horizon Task Force will “[continue] its investigation into the explosion and will hold accountable those who violated the law.” If found guilty on both charges, Mix faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and half a million dollars in fines. EXCLUSIVE: Photos show U.S. troops posing with body parts of Afghan bombers: An American soldier says he released the photos to the Los Angeles Times to draw attention to the safety risk of a breakdown in leadership and discipline. The Army has started a criminal investigation.

The photos have emerged at a particularly sensitive moment for U.S.-Afghan relations. In January, a video appeared on the Internet showing four U.S. Marines urinating on Afghan corpses. In February, the inadvertent burning of copies of the Koran at a U.S. base triggered riots that left 30 dead and led to the deaths of six Americans. In March, a U.S. Army sergeant went on a nighttime shooting rampage in two Afghan villages, killing 17.
The soldier who provided The Times with a series of 18 photos of soldiers posing with corpses did so on condition of anonymity. He served in Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne’s 4th Brigade Combat Team from Ft. Bragg, N.C. He said the photos point to a breakdown in leadership and discipline that he believed compromised the safety of the troops.
